India beat England 3-2 in the T20 series, registering their first win on English soil

India coach Amol Majumdar credited the Womens Premier League for the historic achievement of winning the first womens T20 series against England, saying it played a key role in the players progress. He also credited the competitive domestic season for the success.

India lost the fifth and final T20I against England on Saturday, but had already taken an unassailable lead after registering a sensational six-wicket win in the fourth T20I in Manchester on Wednesday.

Head coach Amol Majumdar lauded the WPLs contribution in improving the mindset of the Indian players. Over the years, skill has rarely been an issue, but winning matches under pressure has been a constant problem.

Though a series win doesnt change things overnight, Majumdar sounded upbeat about his team being on the right track. The former Mumbai stalwart believes the overall standard of domestic cricket has improved a lot, helping cricketers prepare for international cricket.

WPL has been an integral part of the players progress. Theres no doubt about that. But there are other tournaments in India that we have a good eye on.A lot of domestic players are playing, Majumdar told PTI.

WPL is just a part of the BCCIs initiative. So, I think WPL has been a happy occasion for us. But at the same time, there are some other tournaments that are important.

Head coach lauds Sri Charani

Sri Charani, who was associated with the Indian team for the first time, was named the Player of the Series. The left-arm spinner showed commendable composure in tense moments. Though she didnt get a wicket in the final T20 match, the series was already sealed by India by then. Majumdar heaped praise on the new player and said that she will have a long career.

I think, you know, from the WPL we recognised her and then I think her progress has been fantastic. Her performance in this series has been amazing. We had a good look at her in the Sri Lanka series where we played a tri-series against South Africa and Sri Lanka. We were looking for a left-arm spinner and she is perfect for the job.

He further added, Batting has been our strength for a long time. For one and a half years I have been in charge of the team and I think we have played fearless cricket as far as batting is concerned. The two departments we wanted to focus on were bowling and fielding.
